If you are looking
for a projector screen and are wondering which projector screen material to choose from the numerous choices
available in the market, you will need a guide to the materials used for projector screens. With a proper guide you
will not make mistakes and choose materials that can make your happy movies look like horror movies, for even a
subtle difference in picture quality and color palette can make huge changes. So before you start selecting
materials, you will have to know the little and major details about the
materials.
The first option in
the market is the plain and simple white seamless paper. This projector screen material is one of the cheapest
options on material in the market. Although the cost is very low as compared to the other materials used for the
proper homemade screen, the quality of this type of material is quite adequate.
However, these
screens made of the seamless paper are available in a limited number of sizes and thus can accommodate only some of
the aspect ratios, which are standard in the market. Another drawback of this type of screen is that they are not
very durable as the other available choices in the market. But, for a low budget plan, this is an absolutely fine
choice. If you are planning to get this screen, it is best to select white instead of gray.
A little higher
budget on your side can allow another option – the curtain backing. It’s also famous as the black-out cloth and
this type of screens serve the customers well. This type of screens is much whippier than the previous option on
the size matter.
Even the price of
this type of screen is not much more than the white seamless paper. This projector screen material is made of cloth
and polyester. One drawback of curtain backing is that the cleaning the material is botheration. But then again the
material being durable, with some care from your side the screen will serve for a long
time.
The generally used
projector screen material is simple vinyl – a popular among the industry standards. For the different kinds of
cinematic environments, the vinyl comes in many different types and qualities. One of the great choices is the
matte white, because of its flexibility and brilliant performance. There is a high variation in contrast of this
type of material, which works much better for the projectors with moderate output and with some control over the
ambient lighting.
There are many other
options like the high power vinyl, cinema vision vinyl and others to choose from. It is therefore your choice of
budget and quality that will decide your projector screen material for your home theater.
